Analysis of π-Phase-Shifted Fiber Bragg Gratings for Ultrasonic Detection

چکیده
Using numerical simulations, we investigated the responses of the π-phase-shifted fiber Bragg gratings (πFBGs) impinged by pressure ultrasonic waves. The effect of the grating length, grating refractive index modification depth, and ultrasonic frequency on the wavelength sensitivity and intensity sensitivity of the πFBG ultrasonic sensor for ultrasonic waves of different wavelengths was analyzed. The directivity of a πFBG sensor was also studied. Our analysis revealed several unique πFBG response characteristics and will be useful in the design and optimization of fiber-optic ultrasonic sensors that use a πFBG as the sensing element.

متن کاملFiber-Optic Refractometer Based on an Etched High-Q π-Phase-Shifted Fiber-Bragg-Grating
We present a compact and highly-sensitive fiber-optic refractometer based on a high-Q π-phase-shifted fiber-Bragg-grating (πFBG) that is chemically etched to the core of the fiber. Due to the p phase-shift, a strong πFBG forms a high-Q optical resonator and the reflection spectrum features an extremely narrow notch that can be used for highly sensitivity refractive index measurement. The etched...
متن کاملNonlinear Switching of Optical Pulses in Fiber Bragg Gratings
We study numerically the nonlinear switching characteristics of optical pulses transmitted though fiber Bragg gratings. We consider both the uniform and phase-shifted gratings and compare their performance as a nonlinear switch. The nonlinear coupled-mode equations were solved numerically to obtain the pulse-switching characteristics. The steady-state behavior known to occur for continuous-wave...
متن کاملPulse shaping with a phase-shifted fiber Bragg grating for antisymmetric pulse generation
Pulses of arbitrary temporal shape can be generated by spectrally filtering a short pulse. Frequency selective reflectors, such as fiber Bragg gratings, can be designed to obtain the desired pulse shape. The required distribution of the refractive index modulation, amplitude and phase, can be calculated using inverse scattering techniques. For weak gratings, under the Born approximation, the im...
